Roberta “Sue” (McCartney) Kosunick, 71, of Salem (Perry Twp.) passed away at 12:13 PM on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at Hillcrest Hospital Cleveland Clinic.
She was born September 24, 1951, in Canton, Ohio, daughter of the late Carl and Ruth (Cottrill) McCartney.
Sue graduated in 1971 from Perry High School in Canton, Ohio. She worked various jobs including Warren Molded Plastics (now known as Ventra), Rose Meat Packing Co., Armstrong’s Saddle Up Trading Post, and at Salem Regional Medical Center in housekeeping as well as transportation. After their children were born, Sue became active with helping the kids with school projects and school related activities. Living on a farm in Hanoverton the family raised and sold pigs, took care of many different types of livestock, and crop farming. Sue was involved with the children participating in 4-H and helping her daughters show their animals at the fair. Sue and her children shared a love for taking care of and nurturing things, like the animals on their farm and the vegetable and flower gardens they grew. She and her daughters would spend time canning and freezing vegetables together. Sue always looked forward to family gatherings, not just because she loved time spent with her family, but it gave her a chance to show off her wonderful cooking and baking abilities. Her other hobbies included quilting, crafts, sewing, and of course decorating for her favorite holiday Christmas. Later in life she and her husband enjoyed camping and riding horses before finally ending up in Salem, where they enjoyed quiet evenings at home watching TV together.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Joseph Michael Kosunick, whom she married on Valentine’s Day in 1972. Also surviving are her daughters Melissa Sue (Bryan) Derenburger of Wellsville, Ohio and Danette Dawn (Eric Schultz) Kosunick of Farmdale, Ohio, her brother Wilbur (Carmel) McCartney of Massillion, Ohio, her sister Constance Betts of Brewster, Ohio, and her granddaughter Madison (Jarod Siebel) Derenburger of Wellsville, Ohio.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two brothers Carl and Doral McCartney.
The family plans to have a private celebration of life held at a later date.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Greenisen family at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services of Salem.
