Shirley Mae (Rhodes) McLemore, 84, of Chesapeake, VA passed away at 8:00 pm on Sunday, November 1, 2020, at her son Gary’s home, with her family near by.
Shirley was born on November 14, 1935, in Greenford, OH, the daughter of the late Raymond “Dusty” and Ruth (Bricker) Rhodes.
She was a 1953 graduate of Greenford High School. Shirley married her late husband Carl “Ken” McLemore on August 19, 1967 and celebrated almost 27 years of marriage before his passing in 1994.
Shirley worked outside of the home at various times in different positions including retail management, restaurant management and bookkeeping. Her most valuable position was being the mother of five boys who were all active in sports. She never missed a game and was proud of each and every one of their accomplishments. She then went on to be a doting grandmother of 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. She loved each and every one of them. Although she was short in stature, she was very strong and everyone loved her sweet and sassy personality. In addition to all of her immediate family she had many nieces and nephews that she loved and adored too! Family was her life!
In addition to being an avid reader, she enjoyed watching movies and of course the Cleveland Browns and Indians. She also loved “surfing” on Facebook and reading each and every message that was sent to her. She was a member of Tidewater Church of Christ and loved bible study and socializing with the families from church.
Shirley is survived by 4 sons; Gary (Rhonda) McLemore of Chesapeake, VA, Lynn (Patty) Stewart of Columbiana, OH, Tim (Suzanne) McLemore of Newport NC, Jeffery (Terrye) Stewart of East Palestine, OH, as well as 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grand children.
In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley is preceded in death by a son, Kenneth “Brent” McLemore.
Private calling hours and service will be held for the family. Shirley will be laid to rest at Hope Cemetery in Salem following her service.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral & Cremation Services of Salem.
