Vernon Metts Obituary

Vernon Anthony “Tony” Metts 77, of Salem, died October 10, 2020 in the emergency room at University Hospital-Revenna.

He was born on April 1, 1943 in Salem, Ohio, the son of the late Oliver D. and Catherine J. (Dixon) Metts Sr.

Tony was a lifetime area resident and worked as a mechanic over the years. He had been employed by the South Range School District, was employed at Campf’s Service Company, as well as operating a wrecker for his uncle’s wrecker service in Salem. Tony was known for socializing at the Slovak Club, Salem Eagles, Salem Amvets and many other clubs in the area. He loved to talk and visit with people and share stories. In his younger years, he enjoyed traveling all over the country, taking long rides on the motorcycle. He and his family were real active with the former REACT group in Salem. They organized many events as well as holiday coffee breaks on Rt 11 in Columbiana. In his spare time, he enjoyed going camping and fishing. Tony had also served as a Boy Scout leader when the children were younger.

Tony is survived by his children; Douglas Metts of Salem, Janet (Robert) Sullinger of Norfolk, VA., and Kimberly (John) Kilpatrick of Evans, GA., siblings: Lois Ellison of Boardman, Kathleen Ashbaugh of Calcutta, Robert (Teresa) Metts of Salem, and Carol (Tim) Espen of Bowling Green, and three grandchildren: Denise Metts and Maegan and Allison Sullinger.

He was preceded in death by his children: Denise Metts in 1965, Dorleen Metts in 1979 and Daryl Metts in 2016, siblings: Christine Moyer, Paul and Oliver Metts Jr.
