Walter "Bud" Johnston Obituary

Walter Calvin “Bud” Johnston 91, of (Salem Twp) Leetonia died at 4:40 pm Sunday, January 10, 2021, at his home.

He was born on October 16, 1929, in Hubbard, Ohio, the son of the late Finley and Eva (Wells) Johnston.

Bud was an industrious young man, who learned what it was to work hard to make a future for himself and his family. The talents and abilities of Bud were passed on to his children as they found their place in the family businesses.

In 1960 he moved to Elkton to the farm where he was a beef and grain farmer. He was also the owner of numerous trucking companies (Pony X Inc., Mule Skinner Inc., Johnston Johnston & Johnston Inc., and Bud Johnston Inc.) that was based in Elkton and Steubenville. In addition to all of this, he also operated their own strip coal mine.

On the farm he liked to harness up the horses and mules and work them on the farm. Bud spent time visiting, sharing and learning from the Jehovah's Witness over the years. He was also a true fan of the old western cowboy shows and movies.

He is survived by his second wife, the former Andrea Lee Okinis whom he married on September 10, 2015, his children: John E. (Shelly) Johnston Sr of Toronto, Cindy L. (Jerry) Simpson of Leetonia, Gary L. (Donna) Johnston of Salineville and Barbara “Bobbie” (Kenneth) Sprouse of Lisbon, brother Arthur (Dottie) Johnston of St. Louis, MO., ten grandchildren, and twenty great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Emily M. McConahy whom he married in 1948 and died in 2002, a son Richard C. “Rick” Johnston in 1969, a sister Virginia Chalky.

There will be a private family gathering with interment in Kimbel Cemetery, Elkton, Oh.

Arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Salem.
